Short Story Spring Roundup

Four New Short Stories!

I hope all of my readers are safe and well as we head into this new and strange summer. Reading is a great way to ease stress, relax, or just while away a lazy afternoon. I am thrilled to have four new published short stories to offer for your reading pleasure. Two of these stories are in print-only and two are online for free reading. So, without further ado…

“Child of Calypso” at The First Line

“Child of Calypso” tells the story of one child’s desperate dream of escaping to a new world. The genre is literary fiction, short story. This story is available as a PDF or full-print magazine. You can order a copy in either format here:

“Clara’s Toon” at The Scarlet Leaf Review

“Clara’s Toon” is a story of love, loss, and the nature of grief. The genre is literary fiction and magical realism in a short story format. You can read this story online at The Scarlet Leaf Review:

“The Visitor” at The Dead Mule School of Southern Literature

The Dead Mule School editors say: “No good Southern Fiction is complete without a dead mule.” Although there is not an actual dead mule in my story “The Visitor,” the DMS editors embraced it. “The Visitor” is a dark tale of a woman who may or may not be a stranger, in a house that may or may not be strange to her.

“The Net” at Havik Fiction 2020

“The Net” is a bit of a hard-luck story. It was accepted last year, but the journal went bust before publication. So back it went into the harsh wasteland of the literary world. It was back out for submissions. Fortunately, Havik Literary Journal accepted this story about two men on an unexpected sailboat voyage off the coast of Thailand. Unfortunately, the print issue is sold out. I will be posting a reader copy of this story once Havik has had their run. You can check out a sample of the issue here:

More Stories headed your way…

There are more stories to come, so stay tuned to the MEF posts and newsletter for updates and publishing announcements. You may even see the news of a short story collection coming out some time in the Fall of 2020. Unless the Zombies attack, of course. Anything seems possible this year. Stay safe, stay well, be kind, and thanks for being readers!!
